Where the River Slows
In collaboration with
Fort Collins Arts in Public Places Program
Inspired by the Cache la Poudre River, this mural illustrates the interconnected ecology of a healthy river system. Snowmelt descends through the canyon into wetlands, braided channels, and beaver-shaped meadows where water slows, spreads, and sustains life.
The piece highlights the relationships between flowing water, rooted vegetation, wildlife, soil, and seasonal cycles. By focusing on the quieter processes of a living watershed — infiltration, regeneration, and biodiversity — the mural invites viewers to see the river not as a single channel, but as a dynamic and resilient ecosystem. The mural also highlights work being done by local organizations here in Northern Colorado to maintain and restore the habitat in pre and post-fire periods of the cycle. Scroll down for more info!
